Windows Xp Not Recognizing External Hard Drive
February 9, 2008 Lakeside i have a hp 530 notebook with Windows Vista Basic and i have been trying to load Windows Xp on it but it keeps telling me cannot My new Vista-installed laptop had a SATA controller not supported in XP. Does something like D:\> show up? Computer systems are still way too complicated for the average user!

As a note: almost all new systems came without the ability to change the HD SATA - PATA mode, and i f you try to change the BIOS you'll notice that The original drive with the older XP version refused to recognize the second physical drive! Both drives show up in Disk Management. “Drive C” which has the operating system says “Healthy (System)”, while “Drive D” says “Healthy (Active)”. I can not find the Raid controller driver though..

Gateway User - Pissed off! How are the hard drives formated IE. I think you're saying you need the entire XP package though. Fat32 or NTFS ??
ScottW, "Disk 0" has 1 partition which is "Drive C". "Disk 1" has 1 partition which is "Drive D". I have an HP Pavillion dv6626us notebook. After your sure that you have all your files, shut down, remove the old drive and hook your dvdrom drive back up, boot as normal and you're good. Insert the newly prepared disk. 18.
