I didn't install any new updates in last days except Windows Defender definitions. 45 minutes and still checking for updates. In my case it was the display drivers which needed to be rolled back to earlier version and that enabled the updates once again.After the update finished installing a new version Although my system is 64 bits the listed requirements did not specify 32 bits. I suggested that in my answer to "Was this Helpful". It suggests to me that there is some other factor at work in your Vista install. but that sometimes happens in the update process so I figure it's normal. Windows Vista Will Not Update You can delete the cookies afterwards, they serve no useful purpose.

I had a similar issue and got an error code that didn't make sense and there was nothing on-line. If I change I get message, "Security Center can't change your automatic updating setting, select manual", then I get the blank window.
