I didn't install any new updates in last days except Windows Defender definitions. 45 minutes and still checking for updates. I had a similar issue and got an error code that didn't make sense and there was nothing on-line. If I change I get message, "Security Center can't change your automatic updating setting, select manual", then I get the blank window.
