But I don't know what's gone wrong this time as I've never had this freezing problem before.

I've got to put in a good plug for Gateway's customer support... I wouldn't use Chrome. I am using my mouse and all of the sudden it doesn't move anymore but the touch pad works just fine. Balance the Load on the PSU or check at least to make sure it is.
