With regards to the 2nd link, I can't follow that, as I can't get into the system recovery environment, pressing F8 just gives me boot order priority options. In the end what did it was a rebuild of the MBR using Easus Partition Manager. I tried going into Diskpart to set an Active partition, and it looks like it works, but as soon as I exit diskpart, its not active. Thanks in advance. I tried making my drive the boot drive in my roommates machine, but the same thing happened.
The situation has changed in that I now get the message "Insert media into boot drive and press any key to continue" rather than just the black screen. Attempt reinstall from Disk. I took the drive out and put it into an external enclosure.
