Help - Computer Shutting Down
Turning off your computer every night automatically extends your computer's life dramatically. I've had the computer on for well over an hour now, but it shut off after 5 mins the time before. Do you have any suggestions? Just leave one out for now. navigate here
You can try re-routing or even adding an additional breaker into your box or if you're unsure? Under power options, disable letting the turn the pc on. That said, I've always been in the habit of shutting down my computer at night so sometimes I do it just because it's routine for me.

- High background activity could cause sluggish behavior though it shouldn't cause that sort of abrupt shutdown.
- If it hasn't been cleaned in two years that's a likely answer.

If you have not recently installed any new hardware into the computer, the next best solution is to systematically remove non-essential hardware.
However, I have to restart sometimes 3 times a month when Ubuntu runs its updates that require reboot. I'm not convinced that's the issue because it doesn't always happen at high load but the only way to be sure is to test. The interval between needing these restarts really depends on what the system is doing. Your power supply should be delivering 3.3-, 5- and 12V inputs to your motherboard, but these can fall outside acceptable ranges if the PSU is under-powered or has developed a fault. Yes, Windows has improved, but even the “latest and greatest” get sluggish (besides, it’s not just the OS that causes issues, the programs do as well).
